Dyno Tuning for Amarok & other 4WD Vehicles

Dyno tuning or dynamometer tuning is the process of re-programming the engine tune parameters in a vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). The vehicle to be tuned is placed on a dynamometer or rolling road, and the power output of the engine is measured frequently to inform the tuning process. Dyno tuning can increase your engines performance, power output, and fuel efficiency by a considerable margin.

What are the benefits of Dyno Tuning?

The benefits of Dyno Tuning over chip tuning include:

ECU is still in charge

Because Dyno Tuning simply rewrites the ECU's factory tune settings, in contrast to many chips or modules that send false information to the ECU or alter the ECU's output. This means the ECU still knows exactly what the engine is doing and is still in control of the engine, which prevents false alarms, being put into limp mode, or no check engine light even when there is a problem.

No physical alterations

All chips and modules come in some form of "black box" which needs to be awkwardly fitted into the engine bay somewhere that was never designed to have a sensitive electronic part. Wiring sometimes needs to be cut and spliced into these devices, creating additional points of potential failure. Dyno Tuning is completely unintrusive.

Diagnostics and Reversal

Our dyno tuning is easily overwritten or reversed if needed, and all diagnostics scan tools will still connect and communicate with the ECU after the tune. If your tune is reversed or overwritten during a service or by your manufacturer, we keep a copy of your tune file which we can re-upload to your vehicle.

Safety

Here at AIS we have a set of guidelines for each and every vehicle that ensure we do not go beyond predetermined safe air to fuel ratios and boost level parameters. The increase in power is a result of tuning the engine to these parameters, rather than risking damage or a breakdown chasing a desired level of power. We also make sure that your vehicle is in good condition before we start tuning, and as each vehicle is tuned individually on the rolling road, you can be assured that your vehicle has been closely monitored for safety before we return it to you.

Better results

Because we have access to the factory ECU, we can alter a multitude of settings that no chip, module, or piggyback ECU can, including:

  • EGR control
  • Fuel injector duty cycle
  • Fuel rail pressure
  • Throttle response
  • Torque management
  • Turbocharger boost pressure
  • Turbo wastegate control
  • And many more

Having access to so many parameters, we can provide you with exactly what you want out of your engine.

Value

If you buy a chip or module and it breaks, you have to buy a new one. Here at AIS we hold onto your tune file until you tell us you've gotten rid of the vehicle, and we're happy to say that our Dyno tuning is sometimes less than half as expensive as a 'premium' chip or module!
